Biography - About Me

Before our former president gave Texas a less than favorable reputation, I was proud to call the Lone Star State my home. Born in Dallas, I graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1981. I then moved to Eugene, Oregon, in 1982, where I met my husband Bob. After procrastinating for eleven years, we finally had a child, our son Casey, born in 1995. I then began to attempt to answer the question: Is there life after too much television?

I can honestly say the answer is yes — there is more life after television. I love living in Oregon and my family appreciates the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. We enjoy camping, skiing, hiking and white-water rafting together. (See Casey's Page for more information about the best hikes in the area.)

When I started TV-Turnoff Week at my son's school, I discovered how much I like helping other families reap the benefits of limiting television. I offer workshops for parents, expectant parents, health care-providers and teachers on finding alternatives to the electronic babysitter. It really is easier to raise kids with little or no television.

I live in Portland with my husband and son, one cat, and yes, one television, which resides in our guestroom.
