Go Electric

Go Electric

If the Biden administration achieves its transportation goals, I expect we will see more electric vehicles on the road, a change I welcome, especially in urban areas.

I live in downtown Portland, where the air quality is often rated as moderate rather than good. This isn’t because of forest fires, at least not right now. It’s from internal combustion engines. While I love the idea of closing more streets to car traffic and encouraging everyone to ride a bicycle or take a scooter across town, I would also be plenty happy if every car, truck and bus on the road became electric.

Transitioning to electric vehicles isn’t the only answer, but when it comes to improving the air we breathe, it’s one well worth supporting. For those who live next to busy streets and freeways, change can’t come fast enough. We need to embrace multiple solutions and we need to do it now.
